The Retirement Home by Christopher Malfa

Listen to that bird sing!
Who with every breath of oxygen
Fights off the noise
The noise from the weather plane
The dying man covers cough
With his dying hand
It shakes, unsteady
Ready
To
Stop
To only hold onto nothing again
Sirens blare, as if they care,
That bird only wants to sing
Soon it will fly,
And another will die
Oh, what soothe the siren does bring.
